PURPOSE:
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded $666,118 under the Section 5339 Bus and Bus Facilities Program to the City of Greensboro. A budget ordinance must be approved to accept the funds and establish a project budget.
BACKGROUND:
Section 5339 funds can be used to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses, vans, and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities. The City of Greensboro will utilize the funding to purchase one (1) 40 foot Hybrid Electric Diesel bus as a replacement for one (1) 35 foot Heavy Duty Transit bus that has met its useful life in miles. The useful life standards are 12 years or 500,000 miles for a heavy duty fixed route bus. The new bus will be equipped with ADA compliant equipment.
The GTA Board approved the project at their March 25, 2014 meeting.
BUDGET IMPACT:
The City is required to provide a 17% local match. The total project funding is as follows:
$552,878 Federal (83%)
$113,240 City of Greensboro (17%)
$666,118 Total
The local match will be funded from 564-4531-01.6567. A budget adjustment is required to move funding into the appropriate account.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Transportation Department recommends and requests that the City Council approve the attached budget ordinance in the amount of $666,118 establishing FTA Section 5339 Bus and Facility Grant funds and approve the associated budget adjustment.
