PURPOSE:
Cox Utility Service, Inc. is being requested to provide an additional year of utility location services for the Water Resources Department. City Council approval for a contract extension with Cox Utility Service, Inc. in the amount of $68,690 to increase the amount of contract 2012-5599 to $206,067 is requested.
BACKGROUND:
Water Resources is requesting to add an additional year of service to its existing two-year contract with Cox Utility Service, Inc. to provide utility location services. Professional underground locating services are needed to properly locate the City's water and sewer lines at the request of customers and contractors who plan to dig near City assets. The scope of the work will remain the same as the original contract. This will allow the Department to meet the "Underground Damage Prevention Act" law of North Carolina. The existing two-year contract is expiring, and the demand for locate requests has increased since the City became a member of NC811 in September 2014.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding for this contract extension is budgeted in Water and Sewer Operating Fund account 501-7071-01.5429.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Water Resources Department recommends approval of the contract with Cox Utility Service, Inc. in the amount of $68,690.
