PURPOSE:
The bids for Contract 2010-113 (General Sidewalk Improvements - C-5555A) have been received. In order for the work to proceed on this contract, City Council approval is requested for award of the contract to Atlantic Contracting Company, Inc. in the amount of $853,757.50.
BACKGROUND:
This work consists of all labor, equipment, and incidentals required for installing approximately 2.4 miles of concrete sidewalks; along with driveways, retaining walls, ADA compliant concrete curb cuts, and safety rails. Funding is provided from the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) program with 80% reimbursement of the contract costs. The work includes five projects:
W. Wendover Avenue, from Edwardia to Oak Branch
McConnell Road, from Willow to English
W. Friendly Avenue, from Elam to Overlook
Vandalia Road, from Holden to Osborne
JJ Drive, from Randleman east 1,175 feet to the existing sidewalk
The bids were opened on November 6, 2014 and the apparent lowest, responsible bidder is Atlantic Contracting Company, Inc. (Greensboro, NC) with a bid of $853,757.50. Atlantic Contracting Company is a HUB certified WBE and an NCDOT certified DBE.
The DBE utilization goal was 9%. The contractor's DBE commitment is 9.4%.
