PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Police Department has received an additional allotment of $2,500 for FY 13-14 from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) for reimbursement of overtime worked during the participation in the Violent Crimes Task Force. A budget ordinance is requested from Greensboro City Council in accordance with current city fiscal procedures.

BACKGROUND:
The Greensboro Police Department entered into an agreement with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to participate in the Violent Crimes Task Force. The task force's goal is to investigate crimes involving violent organizations or gangs, guns, and violent career criminals. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agreed to reimburse the Greensboro Police Department for overtime costs associated with this service up to a maximum of $20,000 for fiscal year 2013-14 (October 1, 2013 -September 30, 2014).

These funds provide reimbursement to Greensboro City Government for overtime worked by the task force officers. The reimbursement funds have been allotted for the FY 13-14 budget and cannot be used for any other purpose. Funds are audited by the state and federal governments.

BUDGET IMPACT:
On February 4, 2014, City Council approved an annual allotment for FY 13-14 from The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (Ord# 14-18).
