PURPOSE:
City Council approval is requested to convey a utility easement to Duke Energy in order to move the electrical power service at the 911 Center facility on the City's property at 1201 Coliseum Boulevard, Parcel 0014506.

BACKGROUND:
The City is in the process of improving the 911 Center in the Justice Building.  Duke Energy requires the utility easement at this location to provide a new service and transformer location for the electrical service. The easement will allow Duke Power to operate and maintain their equipment and service lines.

The current plan is to have the electrical service ready in April 2014. Installation of the electrical equipment requires the requested easement in order to meet that schedule.

Since the easement is an encumbrance on City property, City Council approval is required for the transaction.

BUDGET IMPACT:
No funds are required, and there is no budget impact.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
Engineering & Inspections recommends that City Council approve the conveyance of the utility easement to Duke Energy Corporation for a new electrical service for the improvement of the 911 Center.
