PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Fire Department (GFD) has received a non-matching grant through the NC Firefighters' Burned Children Fund, Inc. in the amount of $1,000.  The purpose of the grant is to assist with funding the GFD's Second Annual Fire Safety Camp. The week-long camp focuses on a variety of fire safety activities and is targeted towards children ages 7 - 10 years old.  Spaces will be available to 50 children.

BACKGROUND:
The GFD has a strong, ongoing commitment to proactively implement and deliver a variety of fire and injury prevention programs throughout the community with programs designed specifically to target populations at high risk.  The First Annual Fire Safety Camp, held in July of 2013, was an overwhelming success.  The program evaluations, completed by parents, indicated that their children had significant learning experiences.

BUDGET IMPACT:
This requested action will have no adverse impact on the City of Greensboro budget.  The account FD-Burned Children FY14 Grant, #220-4008-01 has been identified to house these funds.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is requested and recommended that Council adopt the attached ordinance to receive the NC Firefighters' Burned Children Fund, Inc. grant in the amount of $1,000.
