PURPOSE:
The City of Greensboro and the Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) have received grant awards from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to purchase one (1) replacement Hybrid Electric Transit Bus (HEV). A budget ordinance needs to be approved in order to allow the expenditure of funds.

BACKGROUND:
The FTA awarded grant funds in the amount of $535,000 to support the purchase of one (1) Hybrid Electric Transit Bus (HEV) that will be used in GTA's fixed route service. These funds will be used to replace one bus that has exceeded FTA's useful life standards both in years of service and mileage. The useful life standards are 12 years or 500,000 miles for a heavy duty fixed route bus. The purchase of this HEV will allow GTA to continue its efforts to replace old diesel buses with HEV.

It should be noted that the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) in coordination and cooperation with the City of Greensboro, City of Concord (NC), City of High Point (NC) and City of Burlington (NC) are requesting proposals for the manufacture and delivery of 35ft and 40ft low floor transit buses to include hybrid electric buses over a 5 year period. Doing a regional bus procurement should result in a per unit cost savings and reduced the delivery time.

BUDGET IMPACT:
The FTA awarded federal funds in the amount of $535,000 to support the purchase of one HEV bus. The City is required to provide local matching funds in the amount of $109,578. These funds are budgeted in the following account: 564-4531.01.6565. Total project funding is as follows:

$535,000 Federal Funds (83...
