PURPOSE:
The Governor’s Crime Commission has awarded the Greensboro Police Department a state appropriation of $36,250 for the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Program. No match is required. In accordance with current City fiscal procedures, approval is required by City Council to accept this grant.
BACKGROUND:
The Governor’s Crime Commission will provide state-issued grants to law enforcement agencies for salaries, training, and equipment for ICAC Task Force affiliate investigators and forensic analysts to employ technology and data analysis to locate and rescue children at risk of exploitation.
The funds will be utilized by the Criminal Investigations Division’s Fraud/Digital Forensics Unit for training and to purchase equipment, software, and hardware. The grant cycle is active from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.
BUDGET IMPACT:
This is a reimbursable grant and no match is required. The funds will be housed in grant account #220-3533-01. Expense reimbursement requests will be sought from the GCC and processed monthly.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is requested that City Council approve the adoption of the associated budget ordinance for the appropriation of state grant funds from the Governor’s Crime Commission FY 17 for the Greensboro Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Program in the amount of $36,250.
