PURPOSE:
Motorola Solutions, Inc. has submitted a proposal to lease new radios, antennas, batteries and chargers to the City of Greensboro for its public safety and general government staff for nine years. The first payment will be due on July 15, 2018 and monthly thereafter for nine years contingent upon the lease commencing on December 23, 2016. By proceeding with approval of the lease at this time, the Master Lease Agreement will result in a savings to the City of Greensboro in the amount of $1,243,500.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Greensboro has contracted with Motorola Solutions, Inc. since 1995 for radios for its public safety and general government staff. The current lease with Motorola Solutions, Inc. ends in 2018. This new Master Lease Agreement will enable the City of Greensboro to timely return all old radios, antennas, batteries and chargers at their end of life in 2018 and provide the latest support for its Police and Fire Departments. The City will be able to finance the purchase in an amount not to exceed $8,629,500 excluding interest and taxes, over a nine year period. The first payment will not be due until July 15, 2018 and monthly thereafter for a total of nine years. Formal bidding is not required for this purchase because it is considered a sole source purchase due to the fact that no other company has a radio that meets the current public safety needs of the City pursuant to North Carolina General Statutes ? 143-129(e)(6).
