PURPOSE:
City Council approval is requested to convey a utility easement to Duke Energy in order for them install a new electrical power service at the new Hayes Taylor YMCA on the City's property at 1500 Dans Road, parcel 0079825.
BACKGROUND:
Since March 2013, the City has leased a portion of the Barber Park property to the YMCA for a new Hayes Taylor YMCA. This YMCA is moving from its current E. Market Street location and is expected to be completed by the first of 2015. As the owner of the property, only the City can grant any easements for utilities to the facility.
The YMCA under construction at the Barber Park needs an electrical service installed for the facility. Duke Energy requires an easement to install and maintain their new underground lines and transformer.
Since the easement is an encumbrance on City property, City Council approval is required for the transaction.
BUDGET IMPACT:
No funds are required, and there is no budget impact.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
Engineering and Inspections recommends that City council approve the conveyance of the utility easement to Duke Energy Corporation so they can install and maintain electrical service to the new Hayes Taylor YMCA.
