PURPOSE:
To amend the City of Greensboro City Charter to give effect to the voter-approved referendum to change the terms of office for city council members and the mayor from two (2) year terms to four (4) year terms beginning with the 2017 elections.
BACKGROUND:
On November 3, 2015, by a margin of 58% to 42%, the voters of the City of Greensboro approved a referendum to change the terms of city council members and the mayor from two (2) year terms to four (4) year terms. This change will become effective for the 2017 elections.
In accordance with NCGS 160A-106, all pertinent provisions of the Charter will be amended to change the terms from two (2) years to four (4) years.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is recommended that City Council approve the ordinance to amend the City Charter to change the terms of office for city council members and the mayor from two (2) year terms to four (4) year terms.
