PURPOSE:
City Council is requested to adopt an ordinance amending Chapter 29 of the Code of Ordinances to amend language pertaining to fire meters.

BACKGROUND:
Fire meters are installed to provide a method to measure the amount of water used for fire sprinkler systems within buildings.  New meters now available for this purpose are single dial meters that are the size of the main line with no bypass meter to avoid loss of pressure for the property owner.  Because this type of meter can now be installed and give sufficient fire protection, the old language concerning the bypass meter line is becoming obsolete.  The proposed language for Section 29-49 communicates expected fees, no matter which type of metering device is installed.

BUDGET IMPACT:
No budget impact is anticipated.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Water Resources Department recommends and requests that City Council adopt the Ordinance Amending Chapter 29 to amend language pertaining to fire meters.
