PURPOSE:
City Council is being requested to approve the award of Contract 2019-0850 to Bar Construction Company, Inc. for Phase II Improvements to Keeley Park for the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Greensboro.
BACKGROUND:
In 2006, the initial Keeley Park Master Plan was developed to provide recommendations for the development of the City's former nursery site to meet the recreational needs of residents. The plan was updated in 2016 to ensure that the City adequately meets the recreational needs of its current and future residents.
In 2018, Greensboro's Parks and Recreation Department was awarded a $250,000 Land Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) matching grant for Phase II of park development at Keeley Park. The matching grant will reimburse the City for the project scope of work that includes: fitness equipment, four cornhole courts, an open space area, bike trails (completed in 2019), three shelters with picnic tables, one shelter with restrooms, additional trails, splash pad renovation with a shade structure, inclusive playground renovation, community garden renovation with raised beds, and an 18 hole disc golf course (completed 2019). Other Phase II improvements will include additional site preparation and grading, and 87 additional parking spaces.
