PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department has received a mini-grant from the North Carolina Recreation and Parks Association (NCRPA) on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), in the amount of $1,500 to further support DEI work in communities. To accept this grant, a budget ordinance is requested from Greensboro City Council in accordance with current city fiscal procedures.

BACKGROUND:
The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department has entered into an agreement with the NCRPA on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to further provide and enhance services for communities within the City of Greensboro. NCRPA is a nonprofit education and advocacy organization, dedicated to the advancement of the park, recreation and leisure professionals in the state. The agency empowers parks and recreation professionals and citizen board members through educational opportunities that enhance their ability to change lives and impact communities. Members from Greensboro Parks and Recreation participated in the NCRPA Racial Equity Cohort where participants had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of racial equity issues in their community. Only alumni from the cohort were encouraged to apply for funding. Greensboro Parks and Recreation was one of four departments to be awarded $1,500 grant.
