PURPOSE:
The City pledged $50,000.00 for the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership program (IMCP) in 2013. Funds are available and need to be appropriated by City Council.


BACKGROUND:
PTP was awarded a grant of $250,000 in the first Investing in Manufacturing Community Partnerships (IMCP) grants in September of 2013 to support the development of long-term economic development strategies. The planning process, which is well underway, has been used to connect innovation assets in our region with aviation and advanced manufacturers in an effort to strengthening our competitiveness. PTP is working very closely with a consortium of the PTP area community college presidents.

In June of 2013, the City of Greensboro agreed to support The Piedmont Triad Partnerships (PTP) Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership program (IMCP), round one, grant application to the U. S. Department of Commerce to develop an Aviation Innovation Partnership. The City was asked to provide $50,000 in matching funds (along with PTP, NCA&T and UNCG). The City Council formally supports this program through the Legislative Agenda. The commitment was made by the Manager with consultation of the City Council, Economic Development Chair and Mayor.

This program will connect several aviation related initiatives in this region, and will strengthen and support companies that are in and supply the aviation sector. It will build on the existing collaborative efforts in aviation around workforce development...
