PURPOSE:

The City of Greensboro and the Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) received grant awards from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) as part of the FFY 2015 FTA Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) program.  City Council approval is required to establish the budget and allow the expenditure of funds.

 

BACKGROUND:

The FTA awarded grant funds in the amount of $1,618,000 to support the purchase of four (4) transit buses that will be used in GTA’s fixed route service. These funds will be used to replace four (4) buses that have exceeded FTA’s useful life standards, both in years of service and mileage. The useful life standards are 12 years or 500,000 miles for a heavy duty fixed route bus.

 

In addition, FFY 2014 FTA CMAQ funds will be used for the purchase of a fifth replacement bus.  This was approved by City Council of January 6, 2015.

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

This project will be funded as follows:

 

$1,618,000                     (85%) Federal Funds

$285,529                     (15%) Local Funds

$1,903,529

 

Local matching funds are available in the following Transit Operations Account: 564-4531-01.6567

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Transportation Department recommends and requests that the City Council approve the attached budget ordinance in the amount of $1,903,529.
