PURPOSE:
Upon relocation of the portion of Summit Avenue between North Elm Street and North Davie Street, this item will change its name to Abe Brenner Place.
BACKGROUND:
The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Inc. has requested this street name change in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding for the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts.
Typically, street name changes obtain a recommendation from the Planning Board prior to presentation to City Council. This request differs in that it is an action that is resulting from the execution of the Memorandum of Understanding and does not require a recommendation from the Planning Board prior to Council consideration. The Planning Board will be briefed on the status of this item at their next regularly scheduled meeting being held December 17, 2014.
This portion of street is being relocated southward in conjunction with the LeBauer Park improvements and the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts.
Currently there are no buildings addressed on this section of street.
BUDGET IMPACT:
The installation of new street name signs will cost the City approximately $500 dollars.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is recommended that on December 16, 2014, the City Council consider adopting an ordinance changing the name of Summit Avenue between North Elm Street and North Davie Street to Abe Brenner Place with an effective date that coincides with the completion of the street re-alignment.
