PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Fire Department (GFD) has received a non-matching grant from the ADT Alarm Company. The grant was awarded in recognition of the fire department's response to a structure fire in which ADT made notification to Guilford Metro 911, resulting in a prompt fire department response to the emergency. A budget ordinance is necessary to accept this grant.

BACKGROUND:
The GFD is committed to providing all personnel with quality, up-to-date emergency response training. Well trained emergency responders are more efficient and effective in providing services to the public, and are less prone to accidents and injuries. This grant will be utilized to bring in independent consultants to present departmental training on high rise structure fire safety, and/or other various specialized topics.

BUDGET IMPACT:
This requested action will have no adverse impact on the City of Greensboro budget.  The account ADT Life Saver Grant FY14 Grant, #220-4010-01 has been identified to house these funds. This program will not require any additional City funding.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is requested and recommended that Council adopt the attached ordinance to receive the ADT Life Saver Grant FY 2014 grant in the amount of $5000.
