PURPOSE:

An agreement is requested between the State of North Carolina, Department of Public Safety, and the City of Greensboro for the Hazardous Materials Regional Response Team Services. The terms of this agreement begins on November 1, 2020 and expire on June 30, 2024. This agreement may be extended from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

 

BACKGROUND:

This Hazardous Materials Regional Response Team is funded by the State at $69,000 per year to fund daily operations. The financial obligation by the State pays for training, administrative costs, equipment costs, medical, and workers compensation. The State provides a tractor-trailer response vehicle and equipment trailer to respond to hazardous material eventsThe program allows the GFD to enhance their response capabilities in terms of resources that benefit the citizens and businesses of Greensboro as well as the State of North Carolina.

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

This item does not require any additional City funds.

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution establishing the continuation of the Hazardous Materials Regional Response Team.
