PURPOSE:
Kimley-Horn, Inc., is being requested to provide additional engineering design services for the Holts Chapel Road and Lowdermilk Street Roadway Improvements and Sidewalks project (TIP No. EL-5101DM). City Council approval of a contract extension to the professional services contract with Kimley-Horn in the amount of $66,807.92 is requested.

BACKGROUND:
This design project is for the construction of 16,030 feet (3+ miles) of sidewalks along Holts Chapel Road and Lowdermilk Street. On July 19, 2011, City Council approved a municipal agreement between the City of Greensboro and NCDOT for up to $440,000 for the design of this sidewalk with Federal STP-DA funds covering 80% ($352,000) of the design and City of Greensboro's 2008 Transportation Bond funds covering a 20% ($88,000) match. This contract with the extension is still within the agreement amount.

On August 6, 2012, City Council approved award of a design contract to Kimley-Horn for $365,000. Contract 2012-0780 was endorsed and encumbered in the amount of $354,630.65. With this contract extension, the total amount will be $421,438.57 with the NCDOT reimbursing the City 80% of the cost. The roadway and design contract is 100% complete and awaiting NCDOT review. This contract extension is required to add design work in surveying and mapping of property required for new right-of-way and easements. This is an unanticipated cost...
