PURPOSE:
The Property Management Section of the Engineering & Inspections Department is in the process of acquiring property located at 1625 Sunrise Valley Drive, parcel # 0027870. City Council approval is requested for the acquisition of this property.

BACKGROUND:
The City of Greensboro, Parks and Recreation Department purchased two parcels in 2011 located at 1712 and 1714 Kay Street, (parcels 0027839 and 0027840) for expansion of the Northside Park in the Village at Northside neighborhood.  The subject property adjoins the park at the rear and will allow an expanded play ground with better access from both Sunrise Valley Drive and Kay Street.  Parks and Recreation has approved this purchase for the expansion of the park and the added acreage / maintenance will be absorbed by existing operations.

The subject property is owned by Anderson & Associates of Virginia, Inc. The parcel consists of approximately 6,970 Sq. Ft., (0.16 acre) and is zoned RM-18 (Multi-Family Residential).  The property to be acquired was appraised by Lynn B. Ritchy, an independent appraiser, and was valued at $12,500. After negotiations the owner has agreed to accept $11,500.

BUDGET IMPACT:
This acquisition will be funded by the Parks & Recreation Department's Future Park Land Acquisition Fund. Funding in the amount of $11,500 is budgeted in Account #453-5002-01.6011.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Property Management Section of the Engineering & Inspections Department recommends approval of this acquisition.
