PURPOSE:
The Governor's Crime Commission (GCC) Crime Victims' Services Committee has awarded the Greensboro Police Department a two-year federal grant totaling $250,000 for the Greensboro Child Response Initiative (CRI) Program. Annually, the federal award is $100,000 and requires a 25% match of $25,000, making the grant award total $125,000 per year. The GPD will provide the match with in-kind and cash contributions. In accordance with current City fiscal procedures to accept this grant, City Council approval is required.

BACKGROUND:
The Governor's Crime Commission oversees the administration of annual federal block grant programs benefiting North Carolina's criminal justice and juvenile justice systems. The GCC designates specific committees to determine the most effective methods of equitably distributing these funds across the State. The mission of the Crime Victims' Services Committee is to advocate for victims by promoting the development of effective programs that improve the response of human service professionals and the criminal justice system to crime victims.

The Greensboro Child Response Initiative focuses on providing specialized mental health advocacy services to improve response to children who witness or experience violence in order to minimize the traumatic impact of violent crime among children.
