PURPOSE:
City Council approval is requested for a budget ordinance to establish a grant project budget for a special allocation of funds awarded to the City of Greensboro by the U. S. Department of the Treasury in the amount of $8,949,177.90 to provide emergency rental and utility assistance to eligible households financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
BACKGROUND:
The U. S. Department of the Treasury has awarded the City of Greensboro a special allocation of Emergency Rental Assistance funds, in the amount of $8,949,177.90, to be used for program administration and direct financial assistance to eligible households including rent, rental arrears, utilities, utility arrears, and other expenses related to housing. This allocation was authorized by Division N of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, Pub. L. No. 116-260, which was signed by President Trump on December 27, 2020, to respond to the growing effects of this historic public health care crisis.
