PURPOSE: Follow up to College Commission Resolution (Dec. 17. 2013)

BACKGROUND: Council formally recognized the need to establish a College Commission to provide insight to the City on how best to attract and retain students in the community post graduation, in the form of a resolution on December 17, 2013. Furthermore, Council also recognized the formation of this commission, under the leadership of Parks and Recreation, would be an effective method to further engage students, promote civic involvement and serve as a policy making and advisory board.

Upon the unanimous passing of the resolution, staff developed a leadership team consisting of faculty representatives from all seven (7) of the colleges and universities. Over the past few months this leadership team has developed the structure and expanded the vision to form a commission comprising of fourteen (14) students from seven (7) institutions of higher learning and developed a foundation of five (5) core goals:
1. Develop and share ideas that enhance a safe, vibrant and engaging community.
2. Elevate the quality of off-campus experiences through programming and events.
