PURPOSE:

The Budget & Evaluation Department requests City Council’s recognition of the International City/County Managers Association - Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (ICMA-YSEALI) Fellows visiting from Vietnam and the Philippines.

BACKGROUND:

Guilford County, Greensboro, and High Point are partnering to host two International ICMA fellows from mid-October 19 to mid-November. The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Professional Fellows Program offers opportunities for educational exchanges between U.S. and Southeast Asian leaders. ICMA facilitates international partnerships focused on climate adaptation and sustainability for young professionals from Southeast Asia. The Fellows Program offers an opportunity for young professionals from Southeast Asia to learn about sustainable development and the environment through fellowship with U.S. local governments. This will be the second year fellows have been hosted in the area and the only partnership in North Carolina.

The two fellows visiting Guilford County, Dang Le Na and Riza Magbitang, share some common background and interest related to sustainability and agriculture. They are also interested in a cultural exchange that will go well beyond any of the City, County or State services.
