PURPOSE:
Accept the Downtown Greensboro 2030 Strategic Vision Plan.
BACKGROUND:
The effort to create a 10-year strategic vision plan for Downtown Greensboro began in 2019. Community input was the backbone of the plan with the goal to hear from as many community members as possible to shape the recommendations for Downtown over the next decade. Events were held online, throughout Downtown and in each City Council district, reaching a diverse group of Greensboro residents who provided thousands of ideas that shaped the vision, strategies, and recommendations.
In March, COVID-19 changed how we work, live and come together. Given the dramatic changes brought on by this pandemic as well as a renewed movement for racial justice and social equity - our team combined of Downtown Greensboro Inc. employees and the consultants at MIG, took the time to re-assess the draft recommendations to gauge how our priorities may have evolved which included a follow-up online survey.
This resulted in a strategic plan that balances the need for short-term recovery with bold ideas to transform and enliven our city center over the next 10 years and beyond.
The 2030 Strategic Vision Plan includes Big Moves and strategies which will require partnerships between the City of Greensboro, Guilford County, and additional non-profit, philanthropic, educational and private organizations.
